This is a good article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21478416/. In a nutshell, it advises you to speak with a good bankruptcy attorney. You’re really not going to get the proper advice in this forum.

    Good luck!

No, it just slows it down for a few weeks. The house will not become a gift with the bankruptcy though.

If you can manage to screw enough of your other creditors that you can afford to pay off your mortgage this will work, but you need to be able to do it right away.

Filing a Chapter 13 will help you keep your house if you want it and can afford payments. A 13 will let you start making your regular monthly mortgage payments plus extra payments so you can get caught up. I’m not sure what your long term plans are with the house. If you want to be gone with the house you can file a Chapter 7 and wipe everything clean. Your credit score will be crap for 10 years but you will have no debt.
